about the artist
Born in 1971, Joy Marovitz grew up in Iowa, the heart of the American Midwest. The region’s wide-open spaces and authentic American soul helped form her unique vision. A fragile quality of light, an awkward bit of architecture or a lonely stretch of landscape become catalysts for her emotionally-charged paintings.
Her extensive travels to more than 25 countries including South Africa, Namibia, Israel, Dubai, Italy, Spain, Iceland, Hong Kong and Malaysia and the places Joy has called home - Japan, South Dakota and Manhattan - provide sources of inspiration.
In 1994 Joy graduated with a B.F.A. from Cornell University as the top fine arts student of her class.
She currently lives in London with her husband, Daniel, daughter, Eliza, and son, Isaac.
